In November, Stacks announced an integration with Circle’s new xReserve infrastructure. Today, that work is complete. USDCx on Stacks is a USDC-backed stablecoin that plugs directly into Circle’s multichain ecosystem and brings stable, interoperable liquidity to Bitcoin’s leading Layer 2.
What is USDCx? The New Standard for Bitcoin DollarsUnlike previous bridged versions of USDC,
USDCx is a native-backed stablecoin issued via Circle’s xReserve. It represents a fundamental shift in how liquidity moves into the Stacks layer:
- Native Infrastructure: USDCx is not a "wrapped" asset held by a middleman. It is integrated with Circle’s CCTP (Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol), allowing it to move across chains without third-party bridges.
- Cryptographic Transparency: Every USDCx token is backed by USDC and verified through on-chain attestations, providing institutional-grade security.
- Bitcoin Settlement: While it moves with the speed of a Layer 2, USDCx ultimately settles on the security of the Bitcoin base layer through the Stacks network.
How Stacks Apps are Preparing for USDCxThe Stacks ecosystem is moving quickly to adopt USDCx as the primary dollar-denominated asset. Expect a wave of integrations throughout
early Q1 2026:
Protocol | Integration Role |
Zest Protocol | Integrating USDCx into multi-asset lending pools for institutional Bitcoin credit. |
Granite | Enabling non-custodial borrowing, allowing users to draw USDCx against their BTC. |
Bitflow | Launching the primary USDCx/aeUSDC conversion pools and deep trading pairs. |
Wallets | Xverse, Leather, Asigna, and Fordefi have already enabled full support for USDCx. |
The aeUSDC Migration GuideWith the launch of USDCx, the legacy
aeUSDC (bridged via Allbridge) is being gradually deprecated.
Minting of new aeUSDC is now disabled, and users are encouraged to upgrade to USDCx for better liquidity and improved trust assumptions.
Option A: The Swap (Fastest & Cheapest)Starting in
early January 2026, Bitflow will host a specialized conversion pool. This is the recommended path for most users to avoid Ethereum gas fees:
- Navigate to the Bitflow App.
- Connect your Stacks wallet and select the Swap feature.
- Set aeUSDC as the "From" asset and USDCx as the "To" asset.
- Confirm the transaction. Your assets are now upgraded to the new standard.
Option B: The Bridge (Available Now)If you prefer to move through Ethereum or need to exit the Stacks ecosystem temporarily, you can use the Allbridge Classic route:
- Exit to Ethereum: Use Allbridge Classic to bridge your aeUSDC from Stacks back to USDC on Ethereum. (Note: This takes roughly 60 minutes).
- Enter via Stacks Bridge: Once your USDC is on Ethereum, use the official Stacks Bridge to deposit your USDC. This will mint native USDCx directly into your Stacks wallet.
Looking Ahead: 2026 RoadmapThis launch is the first step in a broader multi-chain expansion. Support for additional Circle/CCTP-compatible networks is scheduled for
Q1 2026, which will allow USDCx to move seamlessly between Stacks and chains like Solana, Arbitrum, and Base.
For Developers: If you are building on Stacks, integration guides for Circle’s xReserve and CCTP are available in the
official developer documentation.
